WIFI AT THE GRANGE FAIRGROUNDS

Grange Fair Wireless Frequently Asked Questions

Wi-Fi computer networking technology allows computers and PDAs to send and
receive Internet data via a wireless network. The Grange Fair along with
Getwireless.net have installed numerous IEEE 802.11bg access points around
the fairgrounds. So if your computer is Wi-Fi enabled, you can connect to the
Internet wirelessly while you are at the fairgrounds. You should be able to
connect to the service from most of the camping areas around the fair when you
are outside. You may have problems connecting; if you are inside of an RV or if
you are outside but surrounded by RVs. This is do the fact the materials used in
the RVs tend to block the WiFi signals.

Is there an access fee?

Yes. The cost to use the service is $9.94/day (24 consecutive hours),
    $24.94/week (7 consecutive days) or $49.94/month (30 consecutive days)

Is the network secure?

WiFi access is as secure as any open public access network. It’s always a
good idea to make sure you are on an SSL-encrypted web page prior to
    sending or receiving confidential data.

When you initially access our network, you are presented with a Terms of
Use agreement. Please make sure you agree to the terms and conditions
of usage prior to accessing our network.

What equipment do I need to access the network?

You need a laptop or notebook computer, or a personal digial assistant
(PDA) equipped with a standard Internet browser and a WiFi compliant
(802.11b) wireless Ethernet card or built in WiFi.

I use a Mac instead of a Windows-based machine. Can I still use the
service?

Yes! As long as you have a WiFi capable Mac or even an iPhone you can
use the service. Be aware some of the earlier Mac Books had weaker
WiFi cards so you will need to be closer to an access point.

Where can I buy a WiFi card?

WiFi cards are available from most major electronics retailers such as:
Bestbuy, Circuit City or even Wal-Mart.

How do I connect to the network?

Check to make sure your WiFi software and card are properly installed
and turn on your computer. Then open your web browser and try to go to
a web page like www.google.com. You should see a getwireless.net
welcome page. Enter your payment information and select your plan and
then click ‘submit’. Now you should be ready to surf.

My web browser did not display any pages…What’s wrong?

Here are some things to check if you’re having difficulty.

    1. Make sure you can see a wireless access point with the SSID ‘grangefair’ In
many cases, setting the SSID to ANY or any will also work and will permit
connection to any available WiFi network.
Note: WiFi software terms for SSID may vary. ESSID, Network Name,
Wireless Network Name and Network Identifier, are all terms for SSID.

    2. Make sure that WEP Encryption is DISABLED (or OFF).

    3. Check that the connection is configured for INFRASTRUCTURE mode.
    (Ad-Hoc mode will not work)

    4. If you made any changes in steps 1 through 3 above, RESTART (or
REBOOT) your computer and web browser.

    5. If you still have trouble, contact the getwireless.net help desk 814-867-2100
x2, Monday – Friday, 8am until 5pm. (after hours and weekends you will need
to leave a detailed message and you will be called back) Please leave a
detailed message including your name, phone number and that you are at the
Grange Fair Grounds. Phone calls are usually returned within an hour up until
    10pm.

Can I connect to my corporate VPN in addition to the Internet?

Yes. The getwireless.net network is designed to pass PPTP and IPSEC
packets. In some cases you may need to contact your corporate VPN
    administrator.

What kind of speeds should I expect?

You should see download speeds of approximately 1mb/sec down and
1mb/sec up. There are no guarantee on speeds and the service is a best
effort service. Depending how far away from an access point or how
strong a wireless signal may have an impact on your speeds.

Is there a support number to call if there’s a problem with the network?

Yes. Call the getwireless.net help desk at 814-867-2100 option 2, Monday
    – Friday, 8am until 5pm. (after hours and weekends you will need to leave
a detailed message and you will be called back) Please leave a detailed
message including your name, phone number and that you are at the
Grange Fair Grounds. Phone calls are usually returned within an hour up
until 10pm. The primary purpose of the Help Desk is to ensure the
network is up and running and to answer basic questions regarding
configuration. For more complex issues relating to your WiFi card and its
configuration software, consult your owner’s manual or contact your
manufacturer’s support web site and/or customer support number directly.
